Candidate pass/fail problem

Suppose average marks obtained by 80 student is 40.
Average marks of passed candidates is 45 and that of failed candidates is 15.
Calculate no. of candidates who have passed or failed?

Shortcut Formula:

No. of passed candidates = Total candidates (total avg - failed avg) / (passed avg - failed average).
No. of passed candidates = Total candidates (passed avg - total avg) / (passed avg - failed average).

hence,
No. of passed candidates = 80 (40 - 15) / (45 - 15) = 67.
No. of failed candidates = 80 (45 - 40) / (45 - 15) = 13.
